Wolf Spider
About the Wolf Spider
They do not build webs - they hunt by chasing down prey. Females carry their egg sacs attached to their spinnerets, then carry hatched spiderlings on their backs for weeks. They have excellent night vision with reflective tapetum (their eyes glow in flashlight beams). Over 2,300 species. They are among the most common spiders found in homes and gardens. Some species can live 2-4 years. They are harmless to humans despite their large size and hairy appearance. They are found on every continent including Antarctica.
