Peacock Spider
About the Peacock Spider
Technically a spider, but jumping spiders have more in common visually with insects. Males have iridescent flap-like extensions they raise during elaborate courtship dances, resembling a peacocks tail. They can jump 50 times their body length. They have excellent vision with two large forward-facing eyes. Each of the 90+ species has unique color patterns and dance routines. Their courtship has been compared to a tiny Broadway show. They are harmless to humans and increasingly popular in macro photography.
