About the Tarantula (Goliath)

The largest spider in the world by mass - up to 170 grams. Despite their size, they are relatively docile. Their venom is mild, comparable to a wasp sting. They have hairs they can kick off their abdomen that cause severe itching. They can live 15-25 years. Females can go 2 years without eating after a large meal. They are ambush predators, not web builders. They are popular in the exotic pet trade. Their fangs can be 3 cm long. They molt their entire exoskeleton periodically, including the lining of their mouth and stomach.
