Orb Weaver Spider
About the Orb Weaver Spider
They build the classic circular webs that most people picture when thinking of spiders. Some rebuild their webs daily, eating the old one to recycle silk proteins. Their silk is stronger than steel by weight. Some species build webs over 1 meter across. Golden orb weavers produce silk that is yellow and strong enough to catch small birds. Over 3,000 species. They have been sent to space - spiders spin different webs in microgravity. Web-building is partially instinctual but improves with practice.
