Ladybug (Seven-Spot)
About the Ladybug (Seven-Spot)
A single ladybug eats 5,000 aphids in its lifetime. They reflex-bleed toxic alkaloid fluid from their leg joints when threatened. Their bright red color warns predators of their toxicity. Named after the Virgin Mary (Our Lady) in European folklore. Over 5,000 species worldwide. They can play dead to avoid predation. Their larvae look nothing like adults - tiny alligator-like creatures. They are among the most beneficial insects for agriculture.
