About the Goliath Beetle

Among the heaviest insects on Earth - adults can weigh up to 50 grams, larvae up to 100 grams. Despite their massive size, they are strong flyers. Their beautiful patterned wing cases make them popular with collectors. They play an important role in African tropical forest ecosystems as decomposers. Juveniles develop in rotting wood and compost. Males have a Y-shaped horn on the head used in combat.
