About the Cecropia Moth
The largest native moth in North America. Their caterpillars grow to 10 cm and are green with colorful tubercles. Adults have no functional mouthparts and live only 1-2 weeks. Their large feathery antennae can detect pheromones from 5 km away. They are attracted to lights at night. Despite their size, they are harmless and beautiful. Population affected by parasitic wasps introduced to control gypsy moths. Once common, they are becoming rarer in some areas.
