Blue Morpho Butterfly
About the Blue Morpho Butterfly
Their iridescent blue color is not from pigment but from microscopic scales that reflect light through thin-film interference. When they fly, the flashing blue-brown pattern makes them nearly impossible to track. They are actually brown on the underside with eyespots for camouflage when resting. Used in nanotechnology research - the structural color principle inspired anti-counterfeit technology. Their wings are visible to pilots flying at 300 meters altitude.
