Termites

About the Termites

Their mounds can reach 9 meters tall and maintain constant internal temperature through sophisticated ventilation - architects study them for building design. A single colony can contain 10 million individuals. They produce more methane than all the worlds cows combined, contributing significantly to global methane emissions. They have been building complex structures for 200 million years. The total weight of all termites on Earth exceeds the total weight of all humans. Over 3,100 species described.
