About the Robber Fly

Aerial predators that catch other insects mid-flight with their spiny legs. They inject neurotoxic venom and digestive enzymes, consuming the liquefied contents. They are incredibly aggressive - some species take down wasps, bees, and dragonflies. They have a distinctive bearded face (mystax) that protects them from struggling prey. Over 7,500 species. They are among the most important natural insect pest controllers. Some mimic bees and wasps. They are found on every continent except Antarctica. They have excellent vision for detecting flying prey.
