About the Cricket

They chirp by rubbing their wings together (stridulation), and temperature can be estimated by counting chirps - Dolbears Law: temperature in Fahrenheit = 50 + (chirps in 14 seconds / 4). Only males chirp, primarily to attract mates. They have ears on their front legs. In Chinese culture, crickets are kept as pets for their singing and for fighting. Jiminy Cricket is one of the most famous insect characters. Over 2,400 species. They are farmed for food in many countries - high protein content. They can regrow lost legs.
