Bullet Ant

About the Bullet Ant

Has the most painful insect sting on the Schmidt Pain Index - rated 4+ (the highest), described as pure, intense, brilliant pain, like walking over flaming charcoal with a 3-inch nail embedded in your heel. The Satere-Mawe people of Brazil use them in coming-of-age rituals - boys wear gloves woven with living bullet ants for 10 minutes, causing temporary paralysis and days of pain. The pain lasts 12-24 hours uninterrupted. They are primitive ants, relatively unchanged for millions of years.
