About the Damselfly

Closely related to dragonflies but more slender and delicate. They fold their wings together above their body when at rest, unlike dragonflies which hold them open. Over 3,000 species. They are indicators of good water quality. Their nymphs are aquatic predators. They are weaker fliers than dragonflies. Some species display elaborate courtship dances. They range in color from electric blue to emerald green. They have been around for 250 million years. The largest fossil damselfly had a 20 cm wingspan.
